Gerbren and Brenvisions

            Libera

Brenda or Gerben and Brevisions, as she is known on the internet, is a very talented digital artist. What started as a hobby for her, now is a career. Brenda have done professional dance education and worked as a registered nurse for many years, but her passion for digital art spoke louder and now she is specialized in making photomanipulation and (creative) retouching. Check out the interview I made with her.

                          I can only imagine

1.How did you get interested in digital art?
It was about 2 1/2 years ago that I became interested in the software Photoshop. I had heard of it, but I never really worked with it before. I was in need of some distraction at the time, so I tried some things.
I've noticed right away that making art (photomanipulations) was real fun to do and it became an intensive hobby that got me through many difficult times.
Making art will be my passion for as long as I live.

2.What makes you feel inspired?
Everything in life basically. Ideas and stories pop up in my head when I watch my surroundings, a movie, listen to music, watch pictures on the internet etc. I've written all my ideas down in 2 books.

3.What program do you use to edit the pictures?
Photoshop Elements and Adobe Photoshop CS 3 extended. Sometimes Photofiltre and Paint shop pro X2 for some filters.

4.Any tips for who wants to follow this digital art way?
Work with good software (Adobe Photoshop CS) and buy a tablet (that's so great). Don't be afraid to try new ideas and be tough on yourself. I mean: be a perfectionist, push yourself to the limit, don't give up when you think your work is terrible and expect the best from yourself. You will become better and better if you're able to think and work that way.
I have never followed a graphic education or read any books/tutorials about the tools of Photoshop, but I know you can learn a lot by watching Youtube video's about Photoshop or tutorials on the internet. There are also books available.
I've learned most things by just trying, but I also learned more about shadows, lighting, painting hair and composition by watching other people's work. Don't copy, but study other people's technique.

5.Have you ever tryed to photograph instead of doing photomanipulation?
I have a Canon and Fuji camera, but I (sadly) never use them. It's just that I don't have a lot of time left for photography. I like it a lot though and I hope to learn more about the technique in the future.

6.What was the most rewarding work you've ever did?
My work 'Sorcerer's spell' got the most attention on Deviantart (without a Daily deviation), but I think my work 'Nothing I can't handle' got the most attention on the internet (overall).

7.Do you have a favorite picture among the ones you've did?
That's a tough question, I have a couple of favorites: 'Last corner', 'Magical Conjurer' and 'Farewell isn't forever' are very dear to me.

8.Are you self-taught or you studied for that?
Completely self-taught as mentioned earlier. :)

9. Tell me: a music, a book, a movie and a quotation.
Music: Trance
Book: I hardly ever read books.
Movie: The game
Quotation: “Don't go off wandering, do something!”

Photoshop Elements e Adobe Photoshop Cs 3 extendido.

Livro: Eu quase nunca leio livros.
Filme: O jogo (The Game)
Citação: “ Não saia vagando, faça alguma coisa !”

      Nothing I can't handle

Monday morning's work
Sorcerer's spell

Last corner
Farewell isn't forever
Explore the world little fella

Magical wasteland

          Magical Conjurer
